Holy $%@^ing Asscrackers
Oct. 7th, 2009 03:12 pmI just ran for just over 2 hours (2:02:27 to be precise) and I'm told by people whose opinions I trust that I survived. I was considering going for another 15 minutes, but my knees and feet were giving me those special "warning" twinges which indicate that if I don't lay off pretty damn pronto, I'm going to regret it later.
Really, the take home message of this run is that those sports jelly beans work like a charm. I ate two of them every fifteen minutes starting at 30 minutes in and they didn't cause any digestion problems. My heart rate stayed in a really good range for me on that run as well, which I think the electrolytes had something to do with. My only regret is that I didn't have any water with me, and the beans are pretty strongly flavored. I should have had some water with me for health reasons as well, but I still haven't found a good way to carry it. I asked the guy at the store where I bought these how he handles water on his training run, and he says he just plans his course so that he goes past a lot of water fountains. Not a big help.
I'm going to go fall down and die now.

Date: 2009-10-07 10:55 pm (UTC)Take care of your knees, my friend. Hmmm, for the water, you might like http://www.amazon.com/Tune-Belt-Single-Carrier-Running/dp/B002LCS2NW/ref=sr_1_2?ie=UTF8&s=sporting-goods&qid=1254955893&sr=8-2.
I don't remember hydrating while running, barring the cups of water you splash of yourself when racing. I remember splitting the run so the 1/2 way destination had a place to get water - I would get a little sick if I drank more than a few sips.
