So I mentioned earlier I was reading the book "Burn the Fat, Feed the Muscle". A few important take aways from the book. The number one thing you can do to improve your energy levels and to keep your body using calories is to spread your caloric intake over 5-6 meals a day. The second most important thing is the composition of those meals, 55-60% complex carbs, 30% protein, 10-15% unsaturated fats. Avoid like the plague refined sugars, simple carbs and saturated fats. They give you nice long lists of all the good proteins, carbs and "fats", but another thing they give you is the worse foods list.

The 12 worst fat-storing foods you should never eat
1 Ice cream
2 Fried foods
3 Doughnuts and pastries
4 Candy, chocolate & sweets
5 Soda
6 Fruit “drinks” and other sugar-sweetened beverages
7 Potato chips
8 Bacon, sausage
9 White Bread
10 Hot dogs, fast food burgers
11 Cookies
12 Sugary breakfast cereals

Okay outside of number 12 a lot of those are foods I (used to) eat regularly. Time to make up a shopping list and clear out the pantry.

Of these, I eat one semi-regularly (chocolate), two as very occasional treats (doughnuts, burgers), and the others almost never (less than 4 times a year). For, like, years. Which is why I get so bitter about my cholesterol levels. :P

Hmm. Anecdotally, that did not go that way -- I lost a pound over CQ weekend (go ahead, boo me) while spending it in a rather steady state of low to moderate inebriation. (I didn't drink beer in the gym, though.)

Well, just don't order pizza with sausage or bacon on it.

Ice cream is an rare treat. I don't generally eat fried food. I maybe eat one doughnut a year at our holiday staff meeting.
You had best stop bad mouthing chocolate or we're going to have issues.
Eh, I drink Diet Coke.
No fruit "drinks" or potato chips. I sometimes eat bacon. I don't think I've ever had white bread. Hot dogs are so rare that I don't think it should count. I don't eat fast food.
I tend to only eat cookies if we make them, this happens a couple of times a year.
Does Cheerios and Smart Start:Healthy Heart count as sugary cereals?
